TL;DR

Pixelfx provides a framework for generating pixel art effects through code, offering a library of 244 ready-made animations including elemental attacks, UI transitions, and environmental effects. It is designed for indie game developers and VFX artists who need to produce polished sprite sheets for engines like Godot, Unity, or Phaser.

The tool implements a draft-render-refine loop that allows users to iterate on code-generated effects until they achieve the quality of hand-animated art.

Compatible AgentsThe repository documents support for these agents. The skills may also work with other agents that can load SKILL.md files, but they may need some setup or small changes.

Use this skill

Follow the documented setup, then try a first task.

Use a pixelfx repository checkout

Installs: pixelfx repository checkout, including its tools and bundled pixelfx skill; agent registration is not documented.

Before you start
  • Node 18 or newer must already be installed.

Run from: A pixelfx checkout; clone it next to your project if needed.

  1. If your working directory has no tools/render.mjs, run this terminal command from the directory next to your project to clone pixelfx. The tools use only Node and require no package installation step.

    git clone https://github.com/patch-gg/pixelfx
  2. Make the pixelfx checkout your working directory.

  3. In a terminal in the checkout, render the torch effect to verify the tools run.

    node tools/render.mjs fire/torch
  4. Open the generated records/fire/torch/contact.png with an image-reading tool to inspect the contact sheet.
