Traction scoreGitHub stars can be faked, so popularity alone can be misleading. Traction Score looks for broader signs of recent attention, adoption, and active maintenance.
TL;DR

Rederive helps developers move beyond reading code to understanding the first principles that shaped a project. Instead of providing summaries, it uses Socratic questioning to guide users through the logic of a repository's architecture.

This approach is designed for developers who have built projects with AI assistance and need to internalize the underlying design, or job seekers preparing to articulate technical decisions during interviews.

WHO IT'S FOR
Job seekers
practicing technical explanations of project design decisions
AI-assisted developers
deepening understanding of AI-generated codebases
Open source contributors
learning the architecture of unfamiliar repositories
Technical leads and architects
analyzing system design from first principles

Compatible AgentsThe repository documents support for these agents. The skills may also work with other agents that can load SKILL.md files, but they may need some setup or small changes.

Use this skill

Follow the documented setup, then try a first task.

Setup

Install into detected project agents

Installs: Install rederive into every agent folder detected in the project. · Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, opencode, Windsurf, Amp, Goose

Before you start
  • git
  • bash
  • python3

Run from: The target project directory

  1. Run this command in a terminal from the target project directory.

Give it something to do.

Suggested first task

Understand your repository's first design decision

Uses rederive

  • Open the agent in a local repository you own and want to understand.
  • Be ready to describe the problem you were trying to solve before writing the code.
  • Have git, bash, and python3 installed.
Use the rederive skill on my repository in the current directory. Start by asking why I built it, then guide me through the first design decision with questions and incremental constraints. Stop after that first decision so I can reflect.
